Foundation Phase

Language Approach:

We are an English Medium School. Learners are taught in the Home Language (English) and they also acquire competencies in the First Additional Language, which is Afrikaans. Learners must be able to communicate, read, write and think in both the Home Language and First Additional Language.

The following aspects are important:
● Responses to a text
● Creative writing process
● Reading strategies
● Reading, writing and communicating in the Additional Language
● Communication (verbal)

Mathematics Approach:

To create a critical awareness of mathematical relationships focusing on an array of different resources and methods.

Life Skills Approach:

To provide learners with the necessary skills to assist them in becoming independent and responsible members of society.

Learning Support:

We are in a privileged position to have a qualified member of staff who is able to provide support to learners with barriers. The school has a functional School Based Support Team (SBST) who liaises with MNED to recognise, identify and address any barriers to learning, whether it be academic, emotional, social, etc. The learners’ holistic development is of utmost importance. Educators offer assistance in the form of after-school intervention classes. These classes are not compulsory, but have proven to benefit the learners greatly.

Foundation Phase:
● SBA and continuous informal assessments.
● Combination of formal and informal are used to determine the final mark in each subject.
